Is a Cold Keeping You From Running?
Feeling Under the Weather?
Monday afternoon I came down with a cold. Blocked sinuses, sore throat, cough, the whole package. All this coincided with my knee injury. Not good.
All things seem to fall apart at the same time. And I bet the cold would not have arrived had I been doing my running regularly and outdoors. But the last 3 weeks have been a struggle, running only 2-3 times per week and much shorter distances. Not to mention that I am running indoors. The body is not getting the exercise it needs. Guess it got upset with me.
Best Thing To Do Is Rest, Right?
So like the majority, what did I do? I did nothing. Completely nothing. I rested Tuesday and Wednesday. Thursday I though it would be best to sit it out one more day as well. Sure I was getting slowly better but at the same time I was feeling sluggish and down. Resting did not do any good for my state.
Breaking the Pattern
Friday came and I made the effort to go for a run.
Still feeling a bit of pain in the knee, I did my regular distance. Effect? Amazing. The relief, the extra energy, the great positive attitude. Why did I wait so long to do this? Anyone else feel the same way? Next time a cold decides to settle in, throw it out. Give your body what it needs, a good exercise!
